YMCA Summer “Sleep Away” Camp
Imagine…stepping off a bus, walking through a forest, canoeing across a river and walking up a trail and this is just your first moments at camp! Imagine…hearing the birds and the breeze and not a sound of a car anywhere. Imagine…trying a new adventure, cooking over a campfire, looking up at sky literally filled with stars, and meeting your best friend for the first time! These are just some of the amazing experiences that await you at YMCA Summer Camp! The YMCA of the East Bay is proud to offer two unique summer camp experiences at our residence camps, YMCA Camp Ravencliff and YMCA Camp Loma Mar.
YMCA CAMP RAVENCLIFF
Located at the southern end of Humboldt County on a hillside along the Eel River, is YMCA Camp Ravencliff. With just 80 campers each session, Camp Ravencliff offers a tremendous opportunity to build community among the entire camp in a rustic, natural setting. Campers choose the majority of their daily activities from a variety of creative options like Fish Diets, Be Like Me and Hiding from Authority, as well as traditional favorites like archery, swimming, canoeing, sports and crafts. Each day begins with a non-denominational motivational chapel in a redwood grove above the river and each evening ends with a rousing campfire as campers hear their own voices echo back at them from the river valley. The highlight of the week is the overnight campout where campers cook over the fire and sleep under the stars.
Camp Ravencliff offers youth sessions for ages 7-13 and a teen session for ages 13-15. Teen campers who would like a longer camp experience are encouraged to sign up for Teen Camp at Ravencliff & Loma Mar (below) and we will bus them direction from Ravencliff to Loma Mar. Sessions are 8 days, 7 nights and campers may stay for multiple sessions. Transportation by charter bus from the Hilltop and Santa Rosa YMCAs is included at no additional charge. YMCA CAMP LOMA MAR
Just south of Half Moon Bay, among the towering redwoods, is YMCA Camp Loma Mar. Camp Loma provides a beautiful and remote location that is still just a short drive from bright lights of the Bay Area. Tall buildings and cracked sidewalks are replaced with gigantic redwoods and flowing creeks which promote relaxation and reflection. YMCA Camp Loma Mar brings campers of all different socio-economic backgrounds together with skits, songs, and programs with intent. It is amongst this diversity, campers at Loma Mar learn about different people and the world outside their scope in the safety and comfort of a camp setting. YMCA Camp Loma Mar is a place where everyone can be themselves in a comfortable, safe, and welcoming environment. Camp facilities include cabins with electricity, a fun outdoor pool, a climbing wall and ever-popular gaga pit.
Camp Loma Mar offers Youth Camp for campers ages 7-13, and Teen Camp for campers ages 13-15. Youth and Teen camp sessions are 8 days/7 nights. Parents may drop campers off at camp, or may take advantage of optional bus transportation from the EM Downer YMCA in Richmond or the Downtown Oakland YMCA at an additional cost. Both camps also offer a Camper In Leadership Training, teen leadership program for teens entering grades 10-12 in the fall. This is a fee-based program that requires an application and the deadline for applications is April 15. Visit the specific camp websites for more details.
