YMCA Women's Wellness Retreat, May 9-11, 2014

Join us for another fun-filled, energizing, rejuvenating Women's Wellness Retreat at Camp Arroyo, this year focusing on taking time for you!  This popular event draws from the many talents of our various YMCA of the East Bay branches to offer participants a menu of activities to meet nearly every interest.  Participants choose from a variety of activities each activity session featuring choices like yoga, Pilates, hikes, climbing wall, water exercise, organic gardening workshops, dance and much more!  Check-in starts as early as 4:00 on Friday afternoon with a choice activity session that begins at 4:30 p.m.!  These fabulous activities as well as meals from Friday dinner to Sunday brunch, and comfortable accommodations, are all included in the event fee.  In addition participants can choose to spend a little extra to pamper themselves with an hour massage appointment for an additional fee.

Camp Arroyo is the perfect setting, away from it all but right nearby, to relax, rejuvenate, and spend a little time focused on you!  Participants rave about the food, the great activities and the additional fun like campfire and "no-skill needed" dancing, as well as the serene environment. 

Space is limited to ensure a quality experience, so make sure to register early as this event typically sells out.  This event is open to all women, as well as girls age 13 & up if accompanied by their parent.  YMCA membership is not required. About our 2014 Keynote Speaker

We are excited to welcome Kate E. McCracken to this year's event!  Kate will be joining us for the weekend and will be our Keynote on Saturday evening and she'll be sharing her thoughts on how we can live Big, Brave & Beautiful. She'll help us explore how to step into the roles in our lives that make us feel most alive and being the fullest expression of our authentic selves with the hope to inspire retreat participants to explore what living a big, brave, beautiful life would mean to them.  Kate will host a smaller workshop Sunday morning for participants who'd like to further explore this concept.

Kate E. McCracken is a writer and speaker who lives a big, brave, beautiful life by sharing her own stories to make it easier for others to share their own. 

She has a Bachelors of Art in Studio Art with a minor in Human Services from California State University Fullerton because at the age of 18 she had no idea what she wanted to do when she grew up and decided to do something fun in the meantime.  Since then she has made her life her laboratory, focusing on intensive self exploration and learning to speak the language of feelings and needs.  Ultimately, Kate discovered how to live a purposeful life by recognizing her gifts and finding opportunities to give them, one of which is helping others do the same.

Kate developed as a professional almost exclusively in non-profit organizations and was part of the team at Mental Health America of Los Angeles (MHALA) who crafted, passed, and implemented California State Proposition 63: The Mental Health Services Act, ensuring access to recovery based, person centered mental health services are available to all.  Despite failing public speaking in college, Kate discovered her capacity for developing others through speaking and teaching while at MHALA.

Kate lives in Los Angeles, California with her partner, author & mindfulness facilitator Jennifer Howd, and their son Angus.  They have a six year old, one eye gold fish who is quickly outgrowing his 30 gallon tank.  Kate is presently authoring her debut memoir for release in early 2015.

Book Club 2014

This year we'll be discussing "Daring Greatly: How the Courage to be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent and Lead" by Dr. Brene' Brown.  If you'd like to participate in a very casual book club, please read the book prior to the weekend and join us over tea Saturday afternoon for discussion and sharing.  This book will also tie in to the theme of the weekend and our Keynote presentation.
